THE GOOD OLD DAYS![]() See how to do it below. |
Highlights of May MeetingBIRDHOUSE EVENTJoe Perret headed up a group of Guild volunteers that built birdhouses for kids at the Covington Fire Station's Annual Family Fun Day on May 17, 2008. This event took the place of the regular May meeting, and followed closely on the heels of the annual Cochon de Lait held at Dick & Julia Gahn's home on May 3.
Many of the kids took advantage of the "painting table" to decorate their houses.
During a lull in the activity, Perret read a proclamation of recognition for the extraordinary efforts that Dick and Julia Gahn have given to the Woodworkers Guild, and presented Dick with a restaurant gift certificate (and two pigs for the next cochon de lait).
We recently received the followng email from Dick: Dear Woodworkers, THE GOOD OLD DAYSDuring a recent trip to Victoria, Canada, the Secretary received a donation to the Guild's library from his friend Conrad Heibey. The "Amateur Craftsman's Cyclopedia of Things to Make," published in 1937 by Popular Science Publishing Company, Inc., contains a number of interesting projects (not confined to woodworking), and it is fascinating to see what techniques have not changed over the last 71 years, although the cost of materials has gone up a bit. The article "Boy's Boat Built for Five Dollars" is the simplest boatbuilding project of several that cover a wide range of complexity.
SOME 2008 GUILD DUES STILL UNPAIDGuild dues ($10 per year) may be given to Treasurer Brian Rowan at the next meeting or mailed to him at 347 Red Maple Drive, Mandeville, LA 70448. |
